Delight in Dilapidation: Photography of Liverpool Littlewoods building

As was the case for many bored and disillusioned students following the Covid-19 outbreak, I saw quarantine as an opportunity to finally have some fun with something other than university work. Although I study Fine Art, photography has lost its place at the heart of my practise due to my transition to webart but i certainly haven’t lost my love of it! Hence, in the first 3 weeks of quarantine, I took to the streets of Liverpool(my hometown) to just see what I could find and take my dusty camera to fulfil its purpose.

This is when I took a stroll around the ‘iconic’ Littlewoods Building. This former commercial nirvana hasn’t been used since 2003 when it was shut. In 2018, the art deco masterpiece was eaten by flames, leaving it with burnt bruises which make for some very interesting photographs. Here I wanted to show the strange delight I took in the aesthetics of delipidation.
